By The Purse Straps.

Posted in Telling Stories at 4:57 PM by Myles

Just when I exit the local grocery [a block away from home], I hear a female yell “Thief! Stop! Stop him! Thief, my purse! Stop that man! Thief!”. Her male companion follows suit.

I spy a young man dashing down the sidewalk with… a black purse. The woman and her man are chasing after to little avail.

A grocery worker dashes out from the corner nearest me to intercept, but fails. This thief is fast a la a football sprinter. A parking lot foot chase later, nothing other than a getaway car pulls up. The aft passenger door pops open, but the purse snatcher slowly rounds the trunk to enter the opposite side — then suddenly hurried once he sees that he is still being pursued.

The car squeals the 5 feet to the stop sign, tire smoke included, and left-turns away. Just as the victim, and her man, and the grocery worker, arrive to breathe the dust.

I make it home, drop off my groceries, and return to see any aftermath. There was none — the grocery worker was doing grocery worker stuff, the victim and her man were gone, and there was brief mention of a cop cruising by.

The first purse snatching I remember witnessing personally.

Many years ago, I purchased a particular belt buckle. Yes. I purchased a belt buckle [more than one, but that's beside the fact].

A few months ago, I purchased a buckle-less belt that — to me — matched my specific belt buckle. I have been wearing this belt//buckle combo at work [and elsewhere, given Life] as part of my get-up [see last post].

I’m rather glad of the belt and belt buckle. And subtly-fancy jacket.

Sort of that “growing into yourself” thing.

It helps to know that Kevin Costner’s “anti-oil/spill” device has actually gained traction. If he could possibly rise higher on my list, I’d like to know how.

If you think the title is crazy, check out how the conversation started here. How does someone confuse current London fashion with late 80s US pop culture located in Miami? All I know is that I’m named ‘Miles’ but am not from London even though I’m a life-long ‘Dr Who’ fan. This makes sense only to me, methinks.

Odd amount of progress on stuff; traction mostly. Sometimes gaining traction turns into momentum, or something.

One would hope.

Can you imagine Obama telling The South that the Feds are coming in to plan their future for them? I can hear the cries of “Reconstruction 2.0!” from such a time line even now.

I liked the speech. I almost hear a call for a “Green Revolution”, similar to a call for a man on the moon or similar.

NPR audio was a couple seconds behind CNN video, but I think that makes sense.

Getting a check from a lawsuit I don’t remember much about, cool.

Hearing a brief mention on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ of a condition, and surgery, that I had had a long time ago, cool.

Being involved in a collision that really didn’t need to be called in to the insurance company but was, not cool.

Oh well.

The other day, I took my car in for several points of maintenance:

  1. Burnt out running light
  2. Silly “it’s the floor mat making you speed” recall that I don’t believe in one bit
  3. Oil change

When I got home, after leaving my car there for 7 hours, I discovered that a headlight was out. Those Fraking Bastards.

After figuring out that an official headlight would cost me hundreds of dollars just for the bulb, I go to a local hardware store and buy two for $11 each. I then replace the burnt out one myself.

I think I’m going to be changing dealerships, at least to see how the closer one is.

Synchronicity Brought To You By ‘N’.

Posted in Penny Circular at 2:16 PM by Myles

On Tuesday, I attended the graduation of someone I know via my wife, who attended my weeding back in November. I had a good time and mingled as I could; I even got paid as I had taken the day off from work. Meeting the person’s extended family was good, and the kids added the required impromptu entertainment [it exists].

Here’s where this post’s sponsor comes in: one of the other graduates is the daughter of Graham Nash, the ‘N’ in CSNY. They also put on the graduation and the party that followed.

Having been on both sides of the fence regarding personally sponsoring a party for a number of people, and being aware of the fact in the moment, I had fun. The added thrill of being in the same room of someone famous is always fun as well. And you could totally tell who the daughter’s friends were. I did, though, take note of who got their diploma first, as well as the expression on their face before the name was called; careful on the cheese there, lest someone sneakier catches you.

So what’s with the synchronicity?

I attend a Unitarian church with a vast inertia toward the antediluvian. For all the grief it’s caused so far [and will again], I would say I’ve merely been “involved” in creating &c a communication survey for the church’s People to fill out, for the benefit of improving communication between the church and its People. It finally [hat stomp] got distributed earlier this week.

At work today, I find an email about a communication’s survey for the group I’m in. For the benefit of improving communication.

For how behind I am on everything, the world is still playing catch-up.
