That Trash:Treasure Ratio.

Posted in Penny Circular at 4:12 PM by Myles

My motivation to go through boxes, and reduce the amount of physical stuff I personally own, has risen of late. The boxes to sort through now fit into one room, and I make as much progress as I can. Some decisions are easy, some are less so, some should be but are made out to be more complicated than they are.

In the face of the current economy, selling unwanted items that “have potential” has been somewhat of an issue. I have been fortunate in some respects, and I have been able to continue selling as often as I create and post ads. What doesn’t… love that Goodwill. For example.

So what do I do with the money I regain?

Yes, I buy better stuff.

But not all the time. My current M.O. — beyond the “Four R’s” — is to get rid of or upgrade what I already have instead of just accumulating stuff … just to accumulate stuff. Something I should’ve been doing all along, but I’m a slow learner on somethings.

What ever am I going to do once I run out of stuff to sell?

As with every Evil Plan… Stay Tuned…

Figuring.

On any given day, let’s say you see an average of 3 police vehicles on your drive home from work. What about St. Patrick’s Day? Shouldn’t you see more?

No.

I’m not complaining, mind you. It’s just counter-intuitive.

Then again, I’m not planning to be out driving this evening…

And Still.

Visited the dentist today for the first time in 3 years. Still no cavities. How this is, I don’t know… but I’m glad, take note.

I have begun scanning in more documents in order to recycle an annoyingly large amount of paper and to digitize records I already have digitized. Sound redundant, resource-consuming and mindless? It is. But hey… I get to put on some Anime at the same time and be productive twice over.

Guests tomorrow. Hopefully it’ll go well.

Chug Chug Chug.

The living room is now decent enough — or close to being decent enough — for company, as long as they don’t look into the second bedroom [which is filled mostly with boxes of my stuff for me to continue going through]. Getting home earlier to actually do this stuff is working out ok so far.

I do wish my wrists would stop hurting though… and my legs are sore too [sometimes an indication of my getting sick with a cold, which isn't cool if that's the case].

I’m glad my web hosting company is what it is. They answer my questions quickly and in Straight English; they’re open about what has hit the fan, when it does; they offer easy installation and version-updating abilities on various goodies. They’re also “green” via offsets and such. Makes life nicer.

Various [and several] medical appointments for the next week or two. Nothing too drastic, if I’m super lucky, and hopefully not too much of the going back and forth either [which was really vile and annoying when I had a 3h daily commute]. We’ll see, starting tomorrow.

An attempt to be sneaky in a convenient-to-me way [which is not always the case] hasn’t worked out due to security policies not under my control. The plan was to set up an email identity on my home system to make it look like I was emailing from work. The first part worked [emails sent appeared to be, at least in part, to be coming from my work email address]. The second part, which would be replying to those emails, didn’t work due to my company’s security policies [emails get rejected as "undeliverable"]. And here I was counting on some information being emailed to an account I could access at work by COB tomorrow. Damn.

… Well hey, it turns out it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. The guy’s out of the office until 16-Mar. Heh. “As the world turns”. Good to know.

The weather is getting better as winter goes into spring &c. Yah, though we have needed the rain here.

Today, unpacking took a significant turn toward progress, which is good. My final bookshelf got assembled and partially populated, and “and stuff”.

I also posted a few more items for sale [eBay & Amazon], which is nice — and even better if the stuff sells.

I hope I get more sleep tonight than I got last night…
