Where’s The Manual?

Posted in Penny Circular at 2:15 PM by Myles

UU’s have inaugural coronations too.

The church I currently attend — and am a current [bored] Board member of — is throwing on the “Installation Ceremony” of its new settled minister this afternoon. As a Board member, I must attend [and help as Usher, careful how the house falls].

Slightly Troublesome: The US vs Canada Olympic gold medal hockey game is happing as we speak. It may just end in time for me to show up “on time” [read: early to help set up]. The fellow spectators at the bar are as enjoyable as the game [finally, scores not in the 7-0, 6-1 range].

It’ll be interesting to see who shows up to this event. I don’t remember something like this last time I had a vote in a settled minister. I remember the vote for damn sure, but not any special “God’s Light From Heaven For The Kingdom Of UU” event. It was a long time ago, do note.

I considered wearing my ‘Prisoner’ outfit [debuted at WorldCon 2004 in Boston], but decided on one of my [of two] ethnic-Asian jackets which I purchased in Portland, OR with a friend of mine several years ago. Ask me about that story sometime, and I may tell you. Yes, I still like costumes.

Well… there goes Plan A. Plan B and not many people will mind [trust me].

LJ Goes Down [After Igby].

Posted in Memo, Telling Stories at 7:30 PM by Myles

After 6 years, roughly 4.5 of which were active only on the cameo level, I have fired the 30-Day bullet into my LiveJournal account.

A University friend of mine got me into it back in the summer of 2004, after I had graduated earlier that spring. Later, with “make your own website” encouragement from a different friend of mine, I shifted my LJ use from blogging to primarily keeping up with some University friends, asking for and giving story-related information.

Now, though, enough of my LJ-based University friends have moved away from LJ to leave for me only the asking and giving of story-related information as my reason(s) for staying on LJ. Granted, keeping it up as real estate for my s/n of choice is a decent reason to stay, but… that didn’t seem to add “enough” to the above-mentioned surviving reason. As silly as it sounds, there’s also the privacy concerns — which have only recently started to grow a little more for me.

After a long stew, I finally asked my “Last Question” the other week. I also heard that the friend who got me in, was going out.

The time felt right.

“Do You Speak Bocce?”

Only on ice, since curling appears to be the only Olympic sport [besides a hint of hockey] that I can watch given the time I’m around TV screens. I’m sure I could stream, but I’ve other things to watch at home.

I’ve noticed that YouTube folks are getting a bit more sneaky, taking a lesson from pedophiles and sociopaths; they’re posting copyrighted videos not only with mis-spelled titles [a common tactic for a decade plus], but now also with a benign video clip prior to the actual content. Much like recording over Disney movies on VHS, partway in, with your favorite criminal activities.

Don’t look at me, I just know stuff. –Det. Tutuola, L&O:SVU

By the way, anyone want a VHS of a ST:TNG episode? Totally, clean, I swear.

I recently discovered Facebook’s Marketplace. One more place to post for sale a Fiestaware dish set I’ve been keen on selling for months. Two people so far have not read the ad correctly; “Oh, I thought it was for four dishsets of four pieces, not one dishset of four pieces”. This despite my stating, clearly and in several ways, what was going on. Oh well.

At least I won’t fly an airplane into their office — no matter “those transgressions”.

Bop Thy Nose.

Posted in Penny Circular at 2:32 PM by Myles

This morning, a car cuts in front of me as I approach my workplace’s security gate; not even a turn signal used. I flash my lights at them. The guard proceeds to tell me that the driver complained that I flashed my lights at them. I have a desire to pursue this [to get even], but think this may open up a foundationless cry of harassment. Which I really don’t need, especially since I’m such a nice guy and they were clearly in the wrong [I mean, if you're gonna cut right in like that you should use your turn signal!].

It did put a cloud over the whole day though.

However, there really aren’t that many low-riding black cars around that parking lot. Mental note, at the least.

Drugless D.A.R.E.

There are times when saying ‘no’ appears to be more difficult than it should be. Such times are vile. Perhaps also the situation or other people involved. If, though, the people involved are vile, then saying ‘no’ should be that much more without blowback. I think this solves my problem. Just don’t iterate “Just Say No” to a former coworker of mine, lest he further spin in his grave prematurely.

Though I haven’t regularly watched in decades, it’s nice to see portions of the Olympics various places I go. I no longer recognize anyone of the Olympians, of course, but hey… it’s dope.

My LJ account now has numbered days until I press the EJECT button. The time has come in many ways, though mostly from the Future and into Past.

And I don’t like second-hand smoke.

3 in 5, The Sequel.

Posted in Penny Circular at 2:49 PM by Myles

Within a week, I have twice passed three police vehicles in a five-minute stretch. Nothing going on, no lights, just one… two… three. They could all be just starting [or ending] their shift, but the driving directions don’t quite work out… and I would’ve noticed before. Curious, but oh well.

Being the only one in the bar… I mean the only one… was kinda nice whilst it lasted.

So was the superbowl. I’m glad the Saints won. Then again, “That’s what your girlfriend said last night.”

Spam has donned the MySpace mask. And I don’t do MySpace. Added to my spam filter, but still.

Am seriously considering leaving LiveJournal. I hardly use it anymore, and it appears the same for the reasons why I would. One or two last questions to pose. For now, Dead Journal Walking.

“Hats Off! Stand Up!”

Posted in Penny Circular at 6:35 PM by Myles

The choice of bar where you watch the SuperBowl can be an important one. A good sign is how quiet it gets during the National Anthem.

Where I went, it was not only silent but endorsed for silence. Various “members of the bar” shouted to some (un-noticed by me) disrespectful folks to take their hats off and to stand up. I had no hat, and was already sitting, and did not notice the offending people… but agreed with the sentiment.

Still… it was totally silent during the National Anthem. It was really cool. And respectful. I’m glad I went, and go, there.

Otherwise… I liked catching the Who half-time show. I mean, really… who’s the new boss?
