This year was the first year in uncounted many that I did not have to be in a vehicle for 3->15 hours one way. In fact, I spent perhaps 30min in a vehicle — total — yesterday.

Today, however. Wow. Talk about California Traffic. By The Way: Fucking Google Maps [Hat-Stomp]. Also: $1.99 Gas again; can’t remember when that last was.

Sri Conquering.

The recent advances the Sri Lankan army has made against the Tamil Tigers has “inspired” me to begin playing more C&C — fortunately or unfortunately. This iteration in the sequence is a modern first-person shooter instead of an omni-field player, something that I haven’t gotten used to beyond the mild playing of Quake 3 and Wolfenstein 3D Pt1 years ago [haven't gotten to Pt2 quite yet; the stupid keyboard controls are evil].

In Other News, someone suddenly got married and pregnant. Or pregnant and married. Suddenly. As in, surprise the surprise. Everyone in their right mind was rooting for the ink to dry on the divorce papers, but like I said: Suddenly and Surprise. Good for them.

In Other Other News, someone died. Now I know where the grey hair came from [the passage of time, two kids and a cross-country move was not enough].

I have been playing Dr Frankenstein regarding my desktop computers the past several days.

I Have Reaffirmed:

  • Having a working computer during such times is great

I Have Learned:

  • I have//had two defunct pieces of technology

I bought a replacement piece of Teck at a nearby store and another piece of replacement Teck online using funds aquirred via eBay. In about a week, if all else goes well, my Creation will be Complete.

It’s been a project though. A whole day for the hardware, another day for the software + hardware debug, and today for more hardware debug and temporary cleanup. Later on, maybe another half-a-day for finish-up.

Circuit Sinking.

Today I decided to go to a local Circuit City that made it onto the recently-released Closure List. I expected a Closing Sale and hoped to find something I’ve had my eyes out for at a better price. I thought, “Why Not Go And Look, Just For Fun? If I Luck Out, No Harm Extending Circuit City’s Death-Rattle For A Few More Seconds”.

Upon my arrival, I…

  1. Found that the store-wide closure sale was “Up To 20% Off”. I thought it might be a little higher due to that branch closing for good, but ok;
  2. Found some items similar to what I was looking for, for 10% off, but they were still beyond my self-imposed price range for what I wanted and they didn’t really appeal to me or what I thought I needed.
  3. Still found nothing in particular I wanted to buy in the overall store, even at the discounted store-closure rate;
  4. Left empty handed, as I reasonably expected.

Therefore, I…

  1. Walked next door to Best  Buy;
  2. Found exactly what I was looking for in short order;
  3. Bought It.
  4. Found a few other items I may want to rent via Netflix;
  5. Left satisfied.

Throughout this experience, I continued to think, “No Wonder Circuit City Is Walking The Mile”.
